Glen Ridge

Library Construction Update #2
November 2, 2007

The staff and Trustees of Glen Ridge Public Library will begin writing a new chapter in the Library's 95 year history soon! On Friday, November 9, 2007, the Library will close to the public to begin long-awaited and much-needed renovations to the building. Movers will start to pack books, dismantle shelves and prepare furniture for storage.

Our good neighbors at the Women's Club of Glen Ridge will provide space for temporary library services during the renovations. The "satellite" library will be located in the former Red Cross Room on the lower level of the Club and is expected to open on or about Friday, November 16th. The entrance is at the back of the building and will be marked with a sign.

During the move, library staff will be on hand in the entrance of the Municipal Building to accept returns and for borrowers to pick up items delivered from other BCCLS member libraries. There will be no Internet computers, reference help or other services, and staff will be available only during the Borough's regular business hours, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm.

There will be minimal interruption to online services provided by BCCLS throughout the move, and all electronic services will still be available 24/7 from any Internet computer, at home, school or office. Anyone with a Glen Ridge Library card can also use their card at any of the 73 other BCCLS member libraries, including Livingston, Millburn, Nutley, West Caldwell in Essex County, plus others in Bergen, Hudson and Passaic counties (visit www.bccls.org for a full list of member libraries). In addition, neighboring public libraries in Essex County participate in the ReBL (Reciprocal Borrowing and Lending) program and cardholders from Glen Ridge may borrow selected items from these participating libraries. A list of ReBL libraries, with phone numbers, is located on the Library's page on the Borough's website, www.glenridgenj.org.

From November 2 to November 8, the Library will offer a special Construction Loan. Books from the adult fiction and non-fiction collection, except new books, may be borrowed until October 1, 2008. It's a great time to stock up on winter and summer reading, or to catch up on some of the literary classics that you've always wanted to read!
